Step into the enchanting world of Suzie Sullivan's Felted Art, where each creation tells a story woven with passion, creativity, and a deep love for Ireland. Suzie's journey from Cheshire in the UK to the scenic landscapes of Co Mayo is more than a geographical shift—it's a transformation reflected in her exquisite fiber artworks.
From Hobbyist to Renowned Artist: Suzie's lifelong passion for crafting began in childhood, with early explorations in stitching, knitting, and various crafts. This love for creating art with her hands evolved steadily throughout her life, fueled by a fascination with Ireland's culture and natural beauty.
A Move to Mayo: In 2001, Suzie relocated to Mayo with her husband Steve and beloved Jack Russell, Gusty, seeking inspiration in Ireland's music, culture, and the ever-changing light that plays across its landscapes. These elements became the heartbeats of her artistic expression, influencing her unique approach to felt and silk paper-making.
Recognition and Achievements: Suzie's dedication to her craft has earned her several prestigious RDS National Craft Awards and showcased her work in numerous solo, collaborative, and group exhibitions across Ireland and beyond. She has also generously shared her expertise through innovative workshops, nurturing a community of craft enthusiasts eager to learn from her self-taught techniques.
Exploring New Frontiers: Known for her whimsical needle-felted sculptures and pictures, Suzie's art captures the essence of Irish culture, myths, fairy tales, and the rugged beauty of Mayo's mountains. Despite a challenge with repetitive strain injury limiting her needle felting, Suzie remains an adventurous spirit, embracing new materials and disciplines like polymer clay, flame-worked glass, wire, beads, and copper work.
Author and Innovator: In 2015, Suzie published "Suzie Sullivan in World of her Own," chronicling her artistic journey since moving to Ireland. Her works, from original sculptures to prints and greetings cards, have found homes worldwide, each piece resonating with the magic she finds in her surroundings.
Through her art, Suzie Sullivan invites you to share in the wonder of Ireland—its landscapes, stories, and spirit. Each piece from her collection not only celebrates craftsmanship but also carries a piece of Suzie's journey, a testament to her boundless creativity and unwavering passion.
